About
The Drinks Federation of South Africa (DF-SA) represents the unified voice of the alcohol industry, bringing together producers and value-chain partners nationwide.
Our vision is to create a drinks industry that is recognised for its significant contribution to a prosperous, just and safer South Africa while advancing responsible drinking behaviours and outcomes.

Unprecedented Industry Collaboration
Transforming the Alcohol Narrative
Against a backdrop of decades of economic stagnation; very high unemployment; and severe income; educational, health inequality, the global Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the scale of these challenges.
As a result, the industry found itself at a tipping point when it was placed at the very centre of a political, social, and health debate on the role of alcohol in society.
As a result, the industry found itself at a tipping point when it was placed at the very centre of a political, social, and health debate on the role of alcohol in society.
During this time, there was no unified voice for the alcohol industry. Therefore, the Founders came together with a sincere desire to reset the industry’s trajectory, relationships, contributions, and the prevailing narrative around alcohol.
The DF-SA embodies the Founders’ vision to unite the entire industry in order to lead and sustain this transformation.

Vision and mission
Vision and mission
A drinks industry that is valued for the breadth and depth of its contribution to a prosperous, just, and safer South Africa, and for meaningfully contributing to progress in responsible drinking behaviours and outcomes, both real and perceived.
We implement self-regulation in advertising, promote responsible trade, and work to reduce illicit trade. We want all market players to adhere to ethical practices that protect consumers and uphold the integrity of the industry.
We conduct rigorous research and gather data to inform industry decisions. Our commitment to science-based evidence includes commission research, among others, ensuring that our programs are grounded in reliable data.
Recognising that change requires collective effort, we aim to collaborate with the government and other stakeholders to drive impactful societal progress. By fostering open dialogue and strategic partnerships, we also aim to address the complex challenges facing the industry and society, creating a safer and more inclusive environment for all.
Through partnerships with Aware.org and SAB Sharp, we lead initiatives and educational programs to foster a culture of responsible drinking. These targeted interventions are designed to reduce harmful drinking behaviours and promote a more informed society
